FELIPE MUJICA

From 29 January to 31 March, Chilean textile artist Felipe Mujica (°1974, Chile) is residing in the Museum of Industry. He continues to build ‘Curtains’, a project that began in 2006 and is still ongoing today. You can watch him at work every Sunday and help embroider his artworks.

CURTAINS

‘Curtains’ consists of a series of geometric textile artworks. Each artwork or curtain is made with materials and techniques that are typical of the location where the work is created. In addition, each piece is the result of a collaborative effort. Collaboration is a fundamental part of the project. Mujica first develops the design and the fabric. Then others help him by sharing their knowhow and skills. This way, every new work radiates the energy of various makers and their origin, techniques and customs.

During his residence at the Museum of Industry, the fabrics are partly machine-made by means of historical looms and the modern semi-automatic TC2, and partly embroidered by hand. A fine combination of technology and craftsmanship.

The eventual artworks will be displayed at the Museum of Industry in May. Suspended in the exhibition space, they will engage in a dialogue with the architecture and history of the museum building.
